A Teddy Cow is a cow. She is wonderful, she is four hundred pounds of hair with opinions, and she will out-stubborn you on a Tuesday. Everything on this aisle is sized for the small breeds and priced for people who are not running a ranch.

Halters & lead ropes

Sized for miniatures, not for a Hereford
Leather halter and lead rope hanging on a weathered cedar fence post

The mini-breed
halter

$22 DIRECT · AFFILIATE

Every hardware store sells you a full-size cattle halter and tells you it adjusts. It does not adjust down that far. This one is cut for a Highland or Dexter under 600 pounds, and the noseband sits where it should instead of over her eye.

What it beat

A $60 show halter that looked wonderful and rubbed a bald patch in a week.

Who it's wrong for

A grown standard cow, or anybody who leaves a halter on unsupervised. Don't.

LEAD ROPE
Cotton lead, 10 ft
$14

Cotton, not poly. Poly burns your hands the one time it matters.

CALF HALTER
Rope calf halter
$11

For a heifer calf you're still teaching to lead.

TIE RING
Blocker tie ring
$29

Gives when she pulls, so the fence post doesn't have to.

NECK STRAP
Numbered neck strap
$9

Four cows in, you stop being able to tell them apart. You will.

Minerals & feed

The part people skip and then pay for
Galvanized mineral tub in trampled pasture grass

The pick

Free-choice
mineral tub

$34 lasts two cows a season

Grass in the Southeast is short on copper and selenium and your cow can't tell you that. Put the tub out, let her decide how much she wants, and stop guessing. This is the cheapest vet bill you will ever avoid.

The rest of the shelf
Rubber feed pan, 3 gal

Freezes without cracking, and she can't step through it.

$12
Plain white salt block

Four dollars. Not a substitute for minerals — an addition.

$4
Slow-feed hay net

A round bale lasts a third longer and she doesn't sleep in it.

$38
Fly spray, permethrin

August in Mississippi is not a season, it's a condition.

$16

Before you buy a Teddy Cow

She is not a large dog. She is a small cow.

Half the people who land on this page found us from a video of a fluffy calf. So here it is straight: she needs an acre, a friend of her own species, a large-animal vet who answers the phone, and about $1,400 a year before anything goes wrong. She will live twenty years. None of that is a reason not to — it's just the part the video left out.

1 acre

Per animal, minimum, on decent grass.

~$1,400

A year, hay and hoof and mineral, no emergencies.

20 yrs

That's the commitment. Longer than most dogs.

WOVEN WIRE
Woven wire, 330 ft
$219

Barbed wire tears a Highland's coat and she doesn't respect it anyway. Woven wire, one strand of hot on top, done.

GATE LATCH
Two-way gate latch
$27

Opens with one hand while the other one is holding a bucket. That's the whole review.

TROUGH HEATER
Sinking trough heater
$44

The South freezes about six nights a year. Those are the six nights you'll be glad.

Grooming & hoof

The hair is the whole point, apparently
Rice-root curry brush

Stiff enough for a Highland coat, soft enough she stands still for it.

$18
Hoof pick & rasp set

For touch-ups between trims. The trims themselves, call somebody.

$32
Fly-repellent ear tags

Not glamorous. Cuts the horn-fly load by most of it.

$21
Rubber grooming mitt

What you hand a kid so they've got a job while you work.

Ours —
the pasture panel

Emily draws each aisle its own panel and we print it on things you'd actually keep. This one is stitched — the whole scene rendered in thread, sheep and cow and donkey and the rabbit nobody asked for.

The Pasture Pets embroidered panel artwork
Porch Dog Supply goods — printed blanket, wood sign, phone case, dog bed and tile
Woven throw, 50×60
$58

Cotton jacquard, woven not printed, so the texture is real. Lives on the back of a truck seat.
